Last spring, Elmwood "s 140th Birthday Committee initiated a contest for students to design an Elmwood flag. Under the direction of Linda Ganzel, students reflected on our history and created a flag for consideration. We had hundreds of entries and a winner was selected for grades K to 4, 5-8 and 9-12. Each was recognized at the 140th Birthday Celebration on Sunday. The winner was Kellen Nielsen, who was awarded $140. The other two winners (winning $25 each) were Hudson Barnes, elementary winner, and Caitlyn Hosier, high school winner.

Community patrons and committee members are very grateful for the students ' enthusiasm for the project and for sharing their art skills. Likewise, we are especially grateful to Ms. Ganzel for helping bring attention to our community"s history, encouraging student participation, and sharing their art talents.
